The problem
When I took over as president, the chapter had five active members and had been carrying a financial deficit of roughly $3,000 for multiple years, with no consistent accountability system in place.
The goal
Rebuild both membership and finances, and put systems in place so the chapter wouldn't slide back into the same position.
My role
As president, I set the recruitment and budgeting strategy, built the accountability policies, and led the executive board.
Process
- 1Set a structured recruitment strategy focused on consistent follow-up rather than one-off events.
- 2Rebuilt the chapter budget and tracked it consistently instead of reactively.
- 3Designed and implemented accountability systems: officer expectations, a strike policy, and financial oversight.
- 4Delegated officer responsibilities and led regular executive board meetings.
- 5Planned and coordinated cultural and philanthropic events drawing 100+ attendees.
- 6Designed the marketing flyers for recruitment, fundraising, and community events myself.
Deliverables

- Original flyer designs for chapter events and fundraisers
Outcome
Active membership grew from 5 to 15+ members, and the chapter's roughly $3,000 deficit was eliminated. Beyond the headline numbers, the chapter now has real accountability infrastructure it didn't have before, which is also what led directly to the President Command Center project: the same instinct to fix a broken system, applied to my own workload.
What I learned
- Financial recovery and membership growth reinforce each other: a more engaged chapter is easier to hold accountable, and clearer accountability makes people want to stay engaged.
- Systems only work if they're simple enough to actually use consistently.
