Ongoing role

Basic Needs Social Media & Analytics

Running the Basic Needs Center's content strategy and reporting on what actually works.

Organization

Basic Needs Center, CSU Chico

Role

Social Media Coordinator

Period

August 2023 – Present

Status

Ongoing role

Ongoing role; the data below reflects one completed annual reporting cycle (July 2025–May 2026).

The problem

The Basic Needs Center needed students to actually see and act on information about food security, housing, and financial support programs, not just have it exist on a page nobody checks.

The goal

Build a content strategy and posting cadence that meaningfully increases visibility of Basic Needs services, and back it up with real reporting instead of guesswork about what's working.

My role

I plan and produce the content, and I also built the reporting: a full July 2025–May 2026 breakdown of monthly views and post volume across the account.

Process

  1. 1Plan and publish content (reels, posts, stories) tied to the academic calendar and campus events.
  2. 2Capture real-time content at events and outreach activities.
  3. 3Track monthly performance and compile it into a reportable summary for supervisors.

Deliverables

  • Ongoing content calendar and publishing
  • A full-year data analytics summary (July 2025–May 2026)

Outcome

Monthly reach fluctuated across the year but stayed substantial: the strongest month, October 2025, reached 80,543 views across 69 posts. Views dropped to a low of 9,884 in December, a natural seasonal dip, and rebounded to 49,898 in January. The overall pattern shows that consistent, calendar-aligned posting drives stronger reach, but posting volume alone doesn't fully determine performance. Timing and content quality matter too.

What I learned

  • Posting more isn't the same as posting well: timing against the academic calendar mattered more than raw volume.
  • Reporting real numbers to supervisors, including the low months, builds more trust than only sharing the highlights.
